“We study the temperature and magnetic field-dependent photoluminescence from the metalorganic molecules octaethyl-porphine platinum (PtOEP) and porphine platinum (PtP) that are doped into organic hosts. We first consider PtOEP in the polymer host poly-dioctylfluorene (PFO), which is characteristic of the phosphorescent dopants and polymers used in organic light-emitting diodes. We observe that the

intensity of the PtOEP zero-phonon emission band, which is strongly suppressed at low temperatures to 1.6 K, increases dramatically with applied magnetic field and is accompanied by a marked circular polarization. This “”magnetic brightening”" effect, similar to that IWR-1-endo mouse observed in other organic systems such as carbon nanotubes, highlights the interplay between low-energy optically active and optically forbidden excited states of PtOEP, which become mixed in applied magnetic fields. To elucidate these findings, we also investigate (i) dilute PtOEP in n-octane hosts

(where emission lines are much sharper), and (ii) dilute PtP in n-octane hosts, for which the emission spectra are simpler and can be directly compared with theory. Detailed electronic structure calculations of PtP were performed, and a model for the magnetic field and temperature dependence of the zero phonon emission lines is developed, which agrees quantitatively with the data for PtP and with

the circular polarization of the PtOEP emission. (C) 2011 American Institute of Physics. Staurosporine in vitro [doi: 10.1063/1.3569584]“
“The www.selleckchem.com/CDK.html aim of this study is to characterize the physical and mechanical properties of HDPE-alumina-HAp composites prepared by injection molding techniques and to demonstrate their superiority over unreinforced HDPE. Composites with up to 30 vol. % of filler, composed of equal volumes of HAp and alumina, were successfully processed by injection molding. On the basis of the analysis of processing results, i.e., melt viscosity, volume flow rate, shear rate, mixing torque, the critical ceramic loading was determined. Tensile tests done at varying crosshead speeds confirm that an increase in ceramic loading results in an increase in strength, as well as a simultaneous decrease in the total elongation at failure. A maximum strength of 20 MPa and a maximum tensile modulus of around 1 GPa was achieved with 30 vol % ceramic loading in semicrystalline HDPE matrix. SEVNB test results demonstrate an improvement in toughness at 20 vol %. The fracture properties are discussed in terms of interfacial bonding between ceramic fillers and the semicrystalline HDPE matrix. (C) 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
